Abstract

In this work a variational formulation for contact problems with friction is discussed. This formulation is characterized by the continuity of the constitutiye relations between displacements and reactions at the contact zone and the differentiability of their respective potentials.
A contact element is developed, using the finite element method for the spatial discretization.
The nonlinear problem is solved by mathematica. programming [Quasi-Newton method].
